Rehabilitation Therapies

There is a way...

For you and your family to receive professional rehabilitation and counseling services in the privacy in your own home. Illness and injury can lead to loss of limb functions, impaired speech and difficulty in managing daily activity. Coping with health problems can be stressful emotionally and financially.

The Berlin Visiting Nurse Association provides comprehensive rehabilitation services to help clients regain their maximum level of function after an illness or injury.

Physical Therapists

  • Assist the disabled to regain use of their limbs.
  • Care for patients recuperating from strokes, joint replacements, bone fractures, and other debilitating conditions.
  • Arrange for ambulatory aides or other physical aid equipment with instructions for safe use.
  • Teach patient and family safety and proper techniques to use in activities of daily living (ADL).

Occupational Therapists

  • Care for patients with upper extremity limitations, illness, or injury that interferes with ability to perform activities of daily living or homemaking skills by providing adaptive equipment and training.
  • Teach energy conservation techniques to patients with severe respiratory or neurological problems.
  • Help individuals regain lost skills and learn new ways of performing daily tasks.
  • Modify equipment and home surrounding to help patients adapt.

Speech Therapists

  • Perform diagnostic speech and language evaluation.
  • Teach basic speech-language patterns and control to patients recovering from strokes and other conditions affecting speech and language functioning.
  • Teach patient and family effective alternative modes of communication.
  • Treat swallowing and related muscle disorders.
  • Provide therapy to improve or restore speech.

Medical Social Workers

  • Provide individual and family counseling in stressful situations.
  • Identify resources for problem solving and community support.
