GETTING MARRIED IN BERLIN?
- Complete this marriage license application and email the completed application to kwall@berlinct.gov
- Please call our office at 860-828-7036 to schedule an appointment AFTER you have submitted the application
REQUIREMENTS
- You must apply for the license in the town in which the ceremony will be held (this includes Kensington & East Berlin)
- The license must be used within 65 days
- Both parties must be present in the Town Clerk's office in order to obtain the license
- When you come into the Town Clerk's office you will need:
- Valid government-issued photo ID (such as a driver's license or passport)
- Payment - cash or check only (no debit or credit cards)
- Fees:
- Marriage License $50
- Certified Copies $20 each
Please note - The Town Clerk's office only ISSUES the license to marry. You must make your own arrangements for someone to perform the marriage ceremony. Click HERE for a list of Berlin Justices of the Peace that may be able to assist you.
AFTER THE CEREMONY (Civil or Religious)
- The law requires that the officiant return the completed marriage license to the Berlin Town Clerk's office either in person or by mail not later than the first week of the month following the marriage. It cannot be returned by the married couple.
- By Mail: 240 Kensington Road, Berlin, CT 06037
- In Person: Town Clerk's Office in Town Hall, or after hours drop box outside Door 3
- Once the marriage license is returned to the Town Clerk’s office, we will sign it in and permanently add it to our records. If any certified copies were paid for in advance, they will be mailed out within 24-48 hours of normal business hours.
- A certified copy of your marriage certificate will always be available in the town in which you received the marriage license. It may also be available in your town of residence, if that town is within the state of Connecticut. For example, if you are getting married in Berlin but reside in New Britain – both Berlin and New Britain Town Clerk’s offices can issue a copy of your marriage certificate.
