Conservation Commission and Open Space
The Berlin Conservation Commission is engaged in the coordination of conservation efforts, supervision of open space lands and monitoring of natural resources. In addition, the Commission promotes environmental awareness and protection within the Town and supports the coordination of land preservation.
The Commission may make recommendations to other commissions and other municipal agencies on proposed land use changes. Further, the Conservation Commission recommends acquisition of land to the Town Council and circulates rules and regulations for the use of open space lands.
The Hatchery Brook Conservation Area is one of the latest open space acquisition projects for the Town. Included in this parcel are the new Hatchery Brook Community Gardens, hiking trails with short-hike loop trails as well as linking trails to Bicentennial Park.
